DYEING

Together with ASCUS lab, I spend three months learning the techniques needed to understand and develop the process of textile dyeing with bacteria.

The different pigmented bacteria were isolated from soil, water or human skin. I used three types of bacteria, but the one that gave me the better result was Chromobac terium violaceum.

The intention was not only learning the microbiology techniques needed for the research, but also the experimentation with different types of fabric, such as nylon, cotton, polyester or lycra.

At the end of the study we were able to apply bacteria not only in pieces of fabric but in a piece of ready-made cloth. A white T-shirt transformed into a unique piece with nonfigurative patterns in a beautiful blue, with a complete sustainable process where there is no pollution involve and the consumption of water is minimum.
